About this job
About Norm
Norm builds AI-native professional services firms and the technology that powers them. Our mission is to help expert professionals deliver better work at greater scale.
Developing the technology and the firms together lets us rethink how work gets done, how teams operate and what clients can expect. Professional judgment and experience guide what we build, while advances in the technology expand what our firms can deliver. Our shared agentic platform connects that progress across teams and services.
Founded in 2023, Norm brings together experts across engineering, research, product, design and professional practice. Our legal and compliance platform serves institutions representing more than $35 trillion in combined assets under management.
Norm also powers Norm Law, LLP, an affiliated AI-native law firm whose attorneys advise leading institutions on complex corporate matters.
AI Fluency:
Norm prefers all team members to be fluent in AI. Successful candidates actively use AI in their day-to-day work to support thinking, creation, and problem-solving. They use it to improve the quality and speed of their work and to continuously refine how work gets done end-to-end.
Candidates should be prepared to demonstrate and discuss their AI usage throughout the interview process, including concrete examples of tools, workflows, and outcomes. We look for practical, hands-on experience, not theoretical familiarity.
This Role
We’re hiring a Technical Accounting Senior Manager to strengthen and scale Norm Ai’s accounting function. This role will own complex technical accounting matters, help lead the monthly and annual close, and ensure accurate financial reporting across a growing and increasingly complex organization.
You will serve as a hands-on accounting leader and trusted partner to Finance and company leadership. You will manage our outsourced bookkeeping team, coordinate closely with external auditors and tax advisors, and build durable accounting policies, processes, and controls. The ideal candidate combines strong technical judgment with an operator’s mindset and is comfortable moving between detailed analysis and cross-functional leadership.
What You’ll Do
Leadership
Communicate complex accounting topics clearly to non-accounting stakeholders and senior leadership.
Provide technical accounting guidance and coaching to internal and outsourced accounting team members.
Identify risks early, recommend pragmatic solutions, and drive projects through completion in a fast-paced environment.
Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting
Lead accounting for intercompany transactions, transfer pricing arrangements, consolidations, and eliminations.
Research, evaluate, and document complex accounting matters under U.S. GAAP, including preparing clear technical accounting memoranda and position papers.
Support accurate and timely financial reporting, including review of account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statement disclosures.
Own accounting policies and support their consistent application across entities, business lines, and geographies.
Monitor evolving accounting standards and assess their implications for the company.
Close, Controls & Operations
Lead the monthly and annual close processes, with accountability for completeness, accuracy, and timeliness.
Manage and review the work of the outsourced bookkeeping team, establish clear service expectations, and strengthen review and escalation processes.
Design, document, and improve scalable accounting processes, internal controls, and close procedures.
Partner with Finance and business stakeholders to translate new products, contracts, legal entities, and transactions into sound accounting conclusions and operational workflows.
Audit, Tax & Cross-Border Matters
Serve as a primary day-to-day partner for external auditors, coordinating requests, supporting audit readiness, and resolving technical accounting questions.
Coordinate with external tax advisors on domestic and international tax matters, including entity structuring, compliance, transfer pricing, and related accounting impacts.
Support accounting and reporting for international operations, including foreign subsidiaries and cross-border intercompany activity.
Maintain organized, audit-ready support for significant estimates, judgments, transactions, and balances.
What We’re Looking For
Core Qualifications
7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including substantial responsibility for technical accounting, financial reporting, or controllership activities.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, CPA preferred.
Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and demonstrated ability to research, document, and communicate complex accounting conclusions.
Experience partnering directly with external auditors and tax advisors.
Strong analytical, project-management, and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the judgment to handle confidential financial information.
Demonstrated ability to leverage AI-powered tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude) to automate repetitive tasks, improve workflows, and increase productivity while maintaining accuracy and quality.
Nice to Haves
Experience at a Big Four accounting firm.
Experience with intercompany transactions, consolidations, and eliminations.
Experience in a high-growth technology company, professional services organization, or similarly complex multi-entity environment.
Experience supporting accounting functions within legal, accounting, consulting, or other professional services organizations
