For over forty years, HarbourVest has been home to a committed team of professionals with an entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to deliver impactful solutions to our clients and investing partners. As our global firm grows, we continue to add individuals who seek a collaborative, open-door culture that values diversity and innovative thinking.

We are committed to fostering an environment of inclusion that promotes mutual respect among all employees. Understanding and valuing these differences optimizes the potential of both the individual and the firm.

HarbourVest is an equal opportunity employer.

This position will be a hybrid work arrangement. You will receive 18 remote workdays per quarter to use at your discretion, subject to manager approval. For example, you may choose to work in the office 4 days per week and take one remote day weekly (typically 13 weeks per quarter), leaving 5 additional remote days to be used as needed.

HarbourVest Partners (HVP) is seeking a Vice President, Evergreen Valuation to lead the build and delivery of the valuation technology, data, and control environment supporting HVP’s Evergreen offerings. This role will establish a scalable and resilient infrastructure for the valuation process, develop governed gold-copy data, automate key workflows and controls, and deliver analytics that improve valuation attribution, back-testing, oversight, and decision-making. Working closely with Fund Accounting, Investment Management, Product Development, IT, Information, Risk Management, auditors, third-party providers, and external valuation specialists falls under the Vice President’s role.

We're seeking an experienced private-markets valuation expert who has optimally modernized data, technology, controls, and operating processes. The candidate will combine strong valuation judgment with product ownership, program execution, and a practical understanding of data governance, control design, supervised fund operations, and technology-enabled transformation.

The ideal candidate is someone who is:

  • A valuation specialist who translates business and control requirements into a clear technology and data strategy.
  • Experienced in building scalable systems, supervised data structures, developed automated procedures, and balanced control frameworks.
  • Deep expertise in private-market investments, approaches to valuation, fund configurations, NAV processes, and audit and regulatory expectations.
  • Able to apply analytics and AI to strengthen controls and decision-making while maintaining appropriate validation, explainable, observation, and human oversight.
  • An effective cross-functional leader who can align valuation, accounting, investment, product, technology, data, risk, and external partners.
  • Highly analytical and able to turn sophisticated data into clear insights for valuation committees, investment committees, executive leaders, auditors, and control functions.
  • Accountable, pragmatic, and passionate about results, with the ability to lead multi-year initiatives from strategy and development through implementation and ongoing ownership.

What you will do:

We are looking for the Vice President to lead all aspects of the strategy, roadmap, delivery, and ongoing performance of the technology, data, analytics, and control capabilities supporting Evergreen valuation.

Technology, Data & Control Infrastructure:

Build and operate a resilient, scalable, and well-controlled ecosystem supporting daily, monthly, and quarterly Evergreen valuation activities—from source-data ingestion and calculation through review, approval, reporting, and audit support.

  • Define and implement the multi-year architecture and product roadmap related to Evergreen valuation, including core platforms and upstream and downstream integrations.
  • Establish authoritative gold-copy datasets for portfolio, fund, market, accounting, and valuation information, with clear ownership, lineage, quality standards, and change governance.
  • Automate data ingestion, validation, reconciliation, calculation, workflow, approval, and evidence retention to improve speed, consistency, and control.
  • Design AI-enabled controls and exception monitoring, supported by detailed use cases, validation, performance monitoring, and human review.
  • Implement dashboards and management reporting for data quality, workflow status, valuation exceptions, control performance, and service levels.
  • Embed information security, access management, business continuity, auditability, records retention, and regulatory requirements into the design and operation of the environment.

Analytics, Attribution & Operating Model:

  • Develop analytics that explain valuation movements and attribute changes to market, company-specific, methodology, foreign exchange, cash-flow, and other relevant drivers.
  • Build the data and analytical framework for systematic back-testing of prior valuation assumptions and conclusions against subsequent transactions, realizations, and other observable outcomes.
  • Partner with valuation teams to standardize data requirements, methodologies, workflow stages, review protocols, and control evidence across Evergreen products.
  • Serve as product owner for Evergreen valuation technology by setting priorities, defining requirements, coordinating delivery and testing, and driving adoption.
  • Lead relevant vendors, data providers, and implementation partners, including service levels, issue resolution, control assurance, and roadmap alignment.
  • Establish metrics for cycle time, data quality, exception rates, control effectiveness, adoption, and realized automation benefits, and use them to drive continuous improvement.
  • Provide clear reporting and insights to the Valuation Committee, fund boards, senior management, auditors, and control partners.

Education Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree experience in finance, accounting, information systems, computer science, data analytics, engineering, or a related field required
  • Advanced degree, CPA, CFA, or relevant technology or data certification preferred.

Experience

  • 10+ years of shown experience in private markets, investment management, valuation, fund accounting, financial technology, data management, or technology-enabled transformation.
  • Substantial private-asset valuation experience and a strong understanding of fair value concepts, valuation methodologies, fund structures, and period-end NAV processes.
  • Shown success designing or implementing enterprise-grade platforms, governed data environments, automated workflows, and financial control frameworks.
  • Experience with data architecture, quality, lineage, reconciliations, analytics, dashboards, and system integrations; familiarity with cloud, workflow, and business-intelligence platforms preferred.
  • Experience applying AI or machine-learning capabilities in a controlled business environment, including use-case governance, testing, monitoring, and exception management.
  • Solid understanding of US GAAP and/or IFRS and regulated or registered investment-company environments preferred.
  • Proven track record to lead cross-functional programs, influence senior team members, manage vendors, and deliver sustainable change in a sophisticated global organization.
