About this job
About the Company
General Matter enriches uranium.
We are designing, building, and operating the world’s lowest-cost enrichment services, here in the US.
In the process, we are restoring America’s ability to produce nuclear fuel to power AI, advanced manufacturing and critical industries our country relies on to remain competitive.
Fuel drives the cost of advanced reactor electricity production, and enrichment drives the cost of the fuel that advanced reactors consume. Reliable, low-cost enrichment is the catalyst for the nuclear Renaissance now under way.
Our mission is to make nuclear not only the cleanest and safest source of baseload power, but also the most affordable. We believe abundant nuclear energy will lead to a post-scarcity society.
We were incubated inside Founders Fund, like Anduril and Palantir before us, and are backed by over a dozen of the world's top venture capital firms.
Our lean, world-class team of engineers and operators is applying a first-principles approach to solving the problem of nuclear fuel production.
We are a mission-driven company with a culture of urgency, accountability, and transparency.
Help us build a high-energy society by making the cleanest, safest form of baseload energy the most affordable.
About this role:
General Matter is seeking an Accounting Manager to own key aspects of manufacturing accounting as we scale domestic nuclear fuel production. This hands-on role offers broad exposure across the balance sheet, income statement, and operations. You will partner with Supply Chain, Analytics Engineering, FP&A, and manufacturing teams to improve visibility and efficiency. The scope is designed to expand beyond inventory, with opportunities for growth into broader accounting leadership or plant controllership.
Responsibilities:
- Own recurring complex Company transactions including inter-company arrangements, debt, and Capex.
- Implement a cost approach with the Controller and maintain a costing program with stakeholders on a regular basis.
- Own assigned month-end close activities, account reconciliations, and financial reporting processes.
- Design, document, implement, and improve accounting policies and internal processes.
- Partner with Supply Chain, Operations, Analytics Engineering, and FP&A to investigate variances and improve manufacturing cost visibility.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting to management, investors, and auditors.
- Contribute to technical accounting research, audit requests, new accounting pronouncements, and high-visibility projects.
- Partner with Controller on implementation of key accounting systems such as enterprise level ERP, close management, and reporting software tools.
- Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other ad hoc accounting needs.
Basic Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and accounting principles relevant to manufacturing companies.
- Experience with inventory accounting, manufacturing cost accounting, and absorption or activity-based costing.
- Ability to own complex reconciliations, identify trends and root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
- Experience supporting financial close, accounting policies, audits, or technical accounting analyses.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and written and verbal communication.
- Self-motivated, hands-on approach and ability to collaborate in a fast-paced, scaling organization.
- Experience with ERP systems and enthusiasm for using new technology to improve finance processes.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Experience at a public manufacturing, oil & gas, or technology enabled business ideally combined with Big Four or other public accounting experience.
- Experience drafting technical accounting memoranda involving ASC 606, ASC 340, ASC 842, internally developed software, or liability-versus-equity classification.
- Experience managing portions of complex audit areas
- SAP or Oracle Fusion ERP experience; exposure to Numeric or Ramp.
- SQL, programming, data manipulation, or finance systems implementation experience.
- Passion for physical products, advanced manufacturing, and operational improvement.
Additional Requirements:
- This position is based in Los Angeles, CA and requires being onsite full-time; hybrid and remote work will not be considered.
- Willingness to work extended hours as needed to meet close deadlines and business priorities.
- Must meet applicable U.S. export-control and employment eligibility requirements.
