About this job
About the Company
General Matter is enriching uranium in America.
Our goal is to design, build, and operate the world’s lowest-cost enrichment services in the United States.
Our mission is to restore America’s ability to produce nuclear fuel—fuel that will power AI, advanced manufacturing, critical industries, and the next generation of nuclear reactors.
Ultimately, our work will help power national ambitions and enable a high-energy society.
We were incubated by Founders Fund, like Anduril and Palantir before us, and are backed by top-tier investors. Our lean, world-class team of engineers and operators is applying a first-principles approach to solving the problem of nuclear fuel production.
We are a mission-driven company with a culture of urgency, accountability, and transparency.
Help us build a high-energy society by making the cleanest, safest form of baseload energy the most affordable.
About This Role
We are seeking a Process Engineer to support the development optimization, and scaling of chemical processes for nuclear fuel cycle operations. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary environment, contributing to safe and efficient engineering solutions in advanced energy production. Ideal candidates will demonstrate a foundational understanding of chemical engineering principles and a willingness to learn and grow within the field.
Responsibilities
- Support the development of new processes and the design of unit operations for nuclear fuel production facilities.
- Lead pilot-scale testing initiatives and contribute to process modeling and data analysis.
- Execute engineering assignments leveraging knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid flow, heat and mass transfer, and reaction kinetics.
- Contribute to process modeling and to the preparation of engineering documents, such as design requirements, engineering specifications, and procedural documentation.
- Prepare and present reports, summaries, test plans, and other documentation to communicate project progress and findings.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, operations, and safety to support design and operational objectives.
- Participate in technical reviews as a presenter or reviewer, offering insights and solutions for project challenges.
Basic Qualifications
- Evidence of exceptional ability (prior projects, portfolio of work, completed products, etc)
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees (MS, MBA, or PhD) may substitute for years of experience, depending on the degree level.
- 2+ years of experience in experience in nuclear safety, process safety, or similar high-hazard environments.
- Strong understanding of core engineering principles, including thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, fluid mechanics, and reaction kinetics.
- Familiarity with engineering design processes and technical documentation.
- Proficiency in problem-solving, data analysis, and effective technical communication.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for conveying technical safety data to diverse audiences.
Ability to work collaboratively across engineering, operations, and licensing teams.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience in a fast-paced engineering environment or a highly technical role requiring a resourceful, entrepreneurial approach to complete tasks within tight timeframes or budget constraints.
- Relevant internship or co-op experience in industries such as nuclear, chemical, petroleum, or aerospace.
- Exposure to process modeling tools.
- Knowledge or experience with vacuum systems, cryogenics, compressible flow, or nuclear chemical processes.
- Strong interest in contributing to innovative projects in the nuclear energy or advanced chemical processing fields.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
