About this job
Environmental Construction Program Manager Role
AWS Environmental is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on by supporting all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that keep the cloud running. We tackle the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain, and we're looking for talented individuals who want to help.
You will:
- Partner with AWS stakeholders to develop regional and site-specific development strategies for the construction and operation of AWS data centers and infrastructure.
- Provide environmental technical assistance and risk management support to Regional Environmental Engineers, Construction Managers, and other internal partners.
- Promote and manage environmental compliance throughout construction across all applicable media — including wetland and waters (CWA Section 404) permits, stormwater and wastewater (NPDES) permits, groundwater protection, air, and the protection of sensitive natural and cultural resources.
- Prepare for data center operations in partnership with Regional Environmental Engineers, ensuring a smooth handoff from construction to operational compliance.
- Engage regularly throughout the construction phase with multiple AWS stakeholders — including Real Estate, Legal, Risk, Water, Design, Public Policy, Construction, and Operations — as well as external stakeholders such as regulatory agencies, consultants, and contractors.
Key job responsibilities
- Assess environmental risks and requirements across all relevant media and develop mitigation strategies to support site-specific project delivery.
- Manage environmental compliance during construction, including wetlands and waters permits, protected species and cultural resource requirements, stormwater and erosion & sediment control, wastewater, and groundwater protection.
- Communicate environmental requirements, risks, and activities to internal and external project partners.
- Coordinate with partner teams — including Construction, Design, Water, Legal, Real Estate, Power, and others — to manage construction and operational constraints.
- Develop site development strategies that are environmentally responsible and sustainable while meeting project timelines.
- Lead regulatory agency interactions and negotiations.
- Develop, manage, and track metrics to evaluate program performance.
