About this job
Amazon’s Global Procurement Organization is transforming how procurement operates at Amazon scale, and we are looking for a Technical Program Manager to drive that transformation. This role owns the programs that move procurement from individual AI-assisted productivity toward an operating model where AI agents carry processes end to end and people verify, orchestrate, and govern. It sits at the intersection of technology, business process redesign, and organizational change, where your work shapes not just the tools procurement uses but how the work itself is structured.
Key job responsibilities
- Define and manage the end-to-end lifecycle of complex, cross-functional technology programs, from problem definition and design through build, launch, and iteration.
- Stand up and operate new delivery team structures for AI transformation initiatives, from team charter and composition through to solutions running in production.
- Define how transformation success is measured and establish baselines before changes land, so that claimed gains can be verified rather than argued.
- Design and run program decision gates, including the criteria for continuing or stopping an initiative, the evidence required at each gate, and the escalation path when something is not working.
- Partner with business leaders to redesign processes, targeting the coordination effort that becomes unnecessary once supplier, commercial, risk, and policy information is maintained as a shared capability.
- Drive architecture and design discussions, applying working knowledge of AI and AWS services to evaluate trade-offs and ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and operationally sound.
- Build the mechanisms the program depends on, including team and charter registries, playbooks for standing up new teams, and the feedback loop that carries learning between business areas.
- Independently identify and resolve structural blockers across teams, including governance gaps, duplicated solutions, missing orchestration between existing tools, and unclear ownership.
- Manage program roadmaps, milestones, and dependencies across multiple engineering teams, proactively identifying risks and removing barriers to keep delivery on track.
- Facilitate business and technical meetings, driving crisp decisions and ensuring the right people are in the room at the right time.
- Communicate program status, risks, trade-offs, and outcomes to stakeholders from engineering teams through Directors and VPs, in clear written narratives and verbal updates.
About the team
Global Procurement Technology builds the systems behind Amazon’s procurement function, from how suppliers are brought on and assessed to how commercial terms, risk signals, and policy are applied across the company. We set the technology strategy for the business and lead its AI transformation, embedding intelligent automation and data-driven capability into the procurement experience rather than layering tools on top of unchanged processes.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with AWS services and cloud-native architectures, and can hold their own in design reviews and technical deep dives. You have a strong grasp of AI and machine learning technologies and understand how to apply them to solve real-world operational problems. You are comfortable operating in ambiguity, bringing structure and clarity where none exists, and you have a bias for action that keeps programs moving forward. Above all, you are customer-obsessed, always working backwards from the needs of the business and the end user.
Basic Qualifications
- Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules
- 2+ years of software development experience
- 4+ years of technical program management working directly with software engineering teams experience
- Experience communicating and presenting to senior leadership
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience working with AI systems, including large language models and agent-based workflows, strong enough to assess feasibility and challenge proposed designs
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience
- Experience defining KPI's/SLA's used to drive multi-million dollar businesses and reporting to senior leadership
- Experience leading highly technical programs involving infrastructure, complex systems, systems engineering
