About this job
Why Socure?
Socure is building the identity trust infrastructure for the digital economy — verifying 100% of good identities in real time and stopping fraud before it starts. The mission is big, the problems are complex, and the impact is felt by businesses, governments, and millions of people every day.
We hire people who want that level of responsibility. People who move fast, think critically, act like owners, and care deeply about solving customer problems with precision. If you want predictability or narrow scope, this won’t be your place. If you want to help build the future of identity with a team that holds a high bar for itself — keep reading.
As Identity Product Counsel, you’ll partner with our computer vision and AI innovators to develop and launch new digital identity and fraud prevention products. You will participate throughout the product development lifecycle to advise on legal risks, establish compliance controls, and support entry to new and global markets. Socure is an ambitious, high-growth company, so you will immediately see the impact of your contributions.
The Role:
Provide legal guidance to product, data science, engineering, and sales/marketing teams on the development of our document verification and digital intelligence products. You’ll touch a wide range of laws, including privacy (especially biometrics), consumer protection, responsible AI, age assurance, and laws that regulate identity cards, numbers and authoritative data sources. You’ll also advise on model risk, machine learning bias, fair lending, and accessibility. You’ll get familiar with official privacy and identity standards relevant to government procurement and global markets.
Take a risk-based and business enabling approach. You will closely track our company and product strategies in order to manage and minimize legal risks. Maintain documentation so your guidance is easy to implement.
Advise on the commercial terms (customer and vendor agreements) that affect our products.
Draft terms of use, product and privacy policies, disclosures, customer documentation, and implement related processes.
Review external communications about our products, including to customers, the market, regulators, and the press.
Work with a dynamic and lean team of product and regulatory legal experts who are always in the middle of stimulating and novel issues. You also will be the product expert for the Legal and our Government Affairs teams, as needed to support their work in contracting, corporate and regulatory matters.
Partner with Data Acquisition & Licensing and Commercial Legal to ensure that data sources and customer contract terms for DocV and Digital Intelligence align with Socure's rights and restrictions, and that novel requirements are built into contract templates and negotiation playbooks.
Participate in Socure's privacy and data governance programs, including privacy-by-design reviews, data protection impact assessments, regulatory monitoring, and consumer-facing issues.
Support customer and prospect engagement as a subject-matter expert, including regulator, bank-partner, and customer due diligence, security and compliance questionnaires, and regulated-industry go-to-market efforts.
Handle government and regulator discussions and disclosures on compliance readiness, in coordination with Government Affairs and external counsel.
Use AI tools as part of your everyday legal workflow, including AI-assisted drafting, research, and review. Surface and help build ideas for automating repeatable legal processes.
Design training and sales-enablement resources on key legal issues for general and targeted audiences.
Monitor legal developments, and offer creative, pragmatic ideas on how the company can work within the law to pursue innovation and competitive advantage.
Special projects as they may arise in your areas of expertise.
What you Bring:
3-5+ years of combined, relevant experience, including experience at a law firm and/or in-house for a financial institution or fintech
Technical background in engineering, computer science, data analytics, statistics, or related areas
Familiarity with launching products and advising on the legal and regulatory implications of technology products
Familiarity with state and federal privacy and AI laws
Fluency translating legal advice into actionable guidance for innovative product and business teams
Avid interest in progressing your legal, tech and commercial knowledge, and evolving your skills in communication and advocacy
Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage projects effectively
Sound and practical business judgment, intellectual creativity, and communication and problem-solving skills
A JD and active membership in at least one state bar
