About this job

  • Position Overview: Senior Appian Lead Developer responsible for leading the planning, design, development, and sustainment of mission-critical Appian applications across classified and unclassified domains. The lead developer directs Appian development, builds process models, SAIL interfaces, records, reports, and integrations, and reviews data models, integrations, security constraints, permissions, and release readiness before deployment. This senior position serves as a technical interface for stakeholders, guides other Appian developers, and ensures every release meets 100% of defined requirements with no critical defects at user acceptance testing while complying with DAF security standards in DoD IL5/IL6 environments.
  • Responsibilities:
  • Lead Appian solution planning and design, translating stakeholder requirements into application architecture, data models, and delivery plans.
  • Design and build process models using Smart Services, XOR/AND/OR gateways, sub-processes, and exception handling such as timer events and error flows.
  • Develop responsive SAIL interfaces for desktop and mobile users that deliver intuitive, consistent user experiences.
  • Configure Appian Records (Data Fabric), define relationships between data entities, and build grid- and chart-based reports and command-level dashboards.
  • Design and manage relational database schemas in SQL, MariaDB, or Oracle and map them to Appian Custom Data Types (CDTs).
  • Configure Connected Systems and Integration Objects using Web APIs, and parse JSON outputs.
  • Implement row-level security and proper handling of CUI and PII in accordance with DAF security and compliance standards.
  • Review data models, integrations, security constraints, permissions, and code quality, and determine release readiness for all Appian changes.
  • Plan and lead testing and user acceptance testing so deliverables meet 100% of defined requirements with no critical defects.
  • Manage deployments across DoD IL5/IL6 environments using approved change control, and maintain technical documentation.
  • Mentor and guide Appian developers, set development standards and reusable patterns, and serve as the technical interface for stakeholder support and troubleshooting.
  • Years of Experience:
  • At least 5 years of experience in Appian planning, developing, and delivering interfaces, processes, data models, and records.
  • Education Level: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Clearance Requirements: Must possess and maintain an active Top Secret (TS) security clearance.
  • Certification Requirements: None required. Appian Certified Lead Developer preferred; Appian Certified Senior Developer or Appian Certified Associate Developer also preferred.
  • Any other work-related qualifications needed for the role: Advanced knowledge of Appian process flow design, including Smart Services, gateways, sub-processes, and exception handling; ability to design intuitive, responsive SAIL interfaces; proficiency with Appian Records (Data Fabric), entity relationships, and dashboards; ability to design relational database schemas (SQL, MariaDB, or Oracle) and map them to CDTs; strong understanding of JSON and Connected Systems via Web APIs; familiarity with the limitations and governance of developing in DoD IL5/IL6 environments; and knowledge of DAF security and compliance standards, including CUI/PII handling and row-level security.
