Job Description

Job Title: Senior Customer Quality Engineer

Job Location: Bloomfield Hills, MI

Department: Automotive Global Customer Quality Engineering

Reports to: Sr. Manager, Automotive Global Customer Quality

Job Description:

As a Senior Customer Quality Engineer within the Automotive Global Customer Quality organization, you will directly support North American automotive OEM customers while supervising one Customer Quality Engineer based in the Bloomfield Hills office. You will own assigned customer quality activities and support quality commitments throughout production and post-launch for Bose Automotive products, including transducers, acoustic structures, amplifiers, and standalone software features.

This is a hands-on senior engineering role requiring strong technical judgment across automotive audio hardware and software. You will personally lead complex investigations, interpret test and field evidence, and work with Engineering, Sales, Product, Manufacturing, and Testing teams to implement systemic corrective actions. You will also supervise one Customer Quality Engineer, balancing daily workload, monitoring deliverables and quality metrics, and providing coaching and performance feedback.

Success in this role requires independent technical problem-solving, the ability to evaluate competing root-cause hypotheses, and clear communication with customers and engineering leaders. You will be accountable for technical execution and local quality performance while supporting continuous improvement across Bose Automotive's current and future products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own a portfolio of customer quality work while supervising one direct-report Customer Quality Engineer, including task assignments, work review, technical coaching, and performance feedback.
  • Balance day-to-day assignments and priorities across the NA quality team, ensure completion of customer deliverables, and escalate capacity or personnel concerns to the Sr. Manager as needed.
  • Lead complex technical discussions with assigned automotive OEMs and regional and global Engineering, Sales, Product, Manufacturing, and Testing partners; manage significant quality escalations through appropriate leadership channels.
  • Lead technically complex production, field, and warranty investigations, applying product knowledge, test evidence, and structured problem-solving to validate root causes and corrective actions. Drive lessons learned into Manufacturing, Development, Testing, and Product teams to prevent recurrence.
  • Execute and coordinate customer PPAP, Run-at-Rate, and production readiness activities, working with cross-functional partners to meet customer requirements and support effective post-SOP handoffs.
  • Own local quality metric performance and follow-up actions; apply statistical methods and appropriate AI-enabled analysis to large warranty, field, and manufacturing datasets to identify risks and prioritize improvements.
  • Lead practical improvements to local quality investigation methods, test practices, and reporting while communicating performance, technical risks, and progress to regional and global stakeholders.
  • undefined

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent relevant technical experience.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant automotive engineering or quality experience, including customer quality, supplier quality, manufacturing quality, software quality and testing, or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex technical investigations and coordinating cross-functional engineering work, including setting priorities, guiding problem-solving, and communicating technical conclusions.
  • Strong understanding of automotive quality management systems and standards, including IATF 16949, ISO 9001, AIAG Core Tools, and software quality frameworks such as Automotive SPICE (ASPICE).
  • Experience managing automotive OEM customer relationships, production quality concerns, field issues, and warranty performance.
  • Strong knowledge of structured problem-solving methodologies, including 8D, 5 Whys, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and effectiveness verification.
  • Experience with APQP, PPAP, Run-at-Rate, and automotive production readiness processes.
  • Demonstrated hands-on technical depth in one or more areas such as acoustics, transducer and acoustic structure performance, electronics and amplifiers, systems design and integration, product test and assurance, and hardware/software product lifecycle management; ability to apply this expertise to complex field failure investigations.
  • Strong analytical skills, including interpreting test results, field data, statistical trends, and software logs where applicable; ability to assess technical evidence, set priorities, and communicate conclusions to customers and senior leadership.
  • Experience collaborating with global teams, manufacturing partners, suppliers, and cross-functional engineering organizations.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience supervising a direct report, including workload coordination, coaching, and performance feedback, preferably in an automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier environment.
  • Established experience managing customer quality relationships with North American automotive OEMs.
  • Experience supporting a diverse portfolio of automotive products and technologies.
  • Experience improving quality investigation workflows, reporting, or local team operating processes.
  • Familiarity with quality management and collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, SAP, Windchill, or similar systems.
  • Experience using AI-assisted analytical tools to investigate large manufacturing, field, or warranty datasets and convert results into actionable technical recommendations.
