About this job
Passionate about precision medicine and advancing the healthcare industry?
Recent advancements in underlying technology have finally made it possible for AI to impact clinical care in a meaningful way. Tempus' proprietary platform connects an entire ecosystem of real-world evidence to deliver real-time, actionable insights to physicians, providing critical information about the right treatments for the right patients, at the right time.
On the Lens team at Tempus, we're building a computational platform to make it easier for researchers both inside and outside of Tempus to answer important questions in precision medicine using Tempus' multi-modal clinical, molecular, and imaging data. Lens integrates our real-world data and advanced algorithms into a cloud-based Software-as-a-Service platform, helping a single researcher generate and test a hypothesis in minutes instead of requiring a research team to work weeks, months, or even years.
That platform is changing quickly. Lens began as a no-code web application where researchers built cohorts by hand, alongside a secure cloud environment where they wrote their own code against licensed data. It is becoming an agentic system, where a researcher describes the cohort they want in plain language, asks an analytical question, and gets back a result with methods, confidence intervals, and reproducible code grounded in Tempus scientific methodology. Some of this is in production today, and more capabilities ship this year.
We are seeking a Product Manager to own the foundation the rest of that platform is built on: how data access works, how accounts and users are organized, how our data catalog is presented and understood, and what has to be true before a new capability reaches customers. New datasets, agents, and tools rely on this layer, which holds some of Lens's hardest product constraints. The access model must make permissions clear to researchers, honor data licenses, and support different rights for separate research teams within one organization. Top candidates will also have experience working with cloud infrastructure, data platforms, or enterprise software administration.
What you'll do
- Own the product roadmap for the Lens platform layer: data access, accounts and administration, the data catalog, and product documentation
- Serve as the product gate for operational readiness, deciding alongside science and design partners what has to be true before a new capability becomes generally available
- Immerse yourself in the tough problems we're solving, and collaborate with scientists, engineers, and designers to develop elegant software solutions
- Serve as the direct line of communication with users of your products to maintain an evolving backlog of future enhancements
- Define and analyze metrics to assess product health, measure new releases' impact, and identify improvement areas
- Prioritize and manage the product backlog, ensuring a balance between short-term deliverables and long-term strategic initiatives
- Communicate roadmap and delivery timelines to partners
- Represent Lens when the platform is built in collaboration other Tempus research and infrastructure teams
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience building software products in the tech or biotech industry
- Hands-on product management for SaaS products, or experience building them as an engineer
- A real appetite for technical problems. You should be able to read a data schema, reason about a permissions model, and hold your own in an architecture conversation. SQL or Python gets used regularly in this role.
- Practical experience using generative AI in your own work, and a point of view on where it helps and where it does not. We will ask for a specific example.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including acting as a translator among diverse teams of biologists, medical professionals, engineers, operators, and data scientists
- A history of using SQL, Python, or product analytics tools to guide decisions
- Experience working with agile software development teams, and with software development and project management tools (JIRA)
- Ability and interest to quickly ramp up on new concepts in the fields of genomics, oncology, and AI
- Experience with permissions and access control models, enterprise administration, or data governance is a plus
