About this job

Amazon Manufacturing Services (AMS) is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join our advanced manufacturing team. This role will be embedded across AMS manufacturing sites, whether operational, expanding, or launching, supporting scaled manufacturing for Amazon. The Manufacturing Engineer will focus on new product introduction (NPI), manufacturing process development, and machinery/equipment selection, ensuring AMS sites are equipped with the right processes and technologies to meet quality, throughput, and cost targets. The role will partner cross-functionally with product engineering, operations, and supply chain teams to evaluate and implement new manufacturing technologies, define process requirements for new and evolving product lines, and drive continuous improvement across production operations. The ideal candidate will also contribute to Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews, providing practical manufacturing feedback during the design cycle, while placing primary focus on standing up and optimizing the processes, equipment, and capabilities needed to scale production at AMS facilities.

Key job responsibilities

New Product & Process Introduction — Support manufacturing process development for new products from prototype through production ramp, including defining process flows, work instructions, tooling requirements, and acceptance criteria for scaled manufacturing.

Machinery & Equipment Selection — Participate in capital equipment evaluation, selection, specification, and commissioning activities, including supporting business cases, conducting vendor assessments, and assisting with installation and qualification at AMS manufacturing sites.

Manufacturing Technology & Automation Evaluation — Research and recommend advanced manufacturing technologies and automation solutions (robotics, vision systems, automated material handling, and fixtured/cell-based automation) that improve throughput, quality, and cost performance across AMS operations.

Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement — Analyze existing production lines to identify bottlenecks, reduce cycle times, optimize setups, and increase capacity using data-driven methods and lean manufacturing principles.

Design for Manufacturability (DFM) — Provide manufacturing engineering input during product design reviews, ensuring components and assemblies are practical to produce at scale with target quality and cost outcomes.

Cross-Functional Collaboration — Work with product engineering, operations, supply chain, and site launch teams to resolve manufacturing challenges, align on process requirements, and support site expansions and new site launches.

Process Control & Quality Systems — Develop and implement process control strategies, quality plans, and inspection methodologies to ensure consistent production output across technologies.

Site Launch & Expansion Support — Provide hands-on manufacturing engineering support for new site launches and capacity expansions, including equipment layout, line balancing, and production readiness assessments.

Documentation & PLM Management — Utilize PLM systems to manage product data, engineering changes, and manufacturing documentation throughout the product development lifecycle.

About the team

Manufacturing Systems Engineering owns the design, build, and continuous improvement of Amazon's advanced manufacturing facilities. We are the engineering team responsible for transforming manufacturing concepts into operational reality, from facility layout and workstation design to process optimization and equipment integration. Our scope spans new facility launches and ongoing expansion and improvement of existing manufacturing operations, supporting advanced manufacturing and assembly of material handling and light industrial equipment for Amazon's fulfillment network. The team is in a high-growth phase, with significant opportunity to help shape manufacturing design standards and scalable solutions that will define how Amazon builds and operates its manufacturing capabilities.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • Experience developing manufacturing processes, work instructions, and acceptance criteria from prototype through production ramp
  • 4+ years of manufacturing or process engineering experience in a production environment
  • Experience with prototyping and implementation of new products or processes
  • Experience with capital equipment selection, specification, or commissioning
  • Experience evaluating or integrating automation (robotics, vision systems, or automated material handling) into production lines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience manufacturing material handling equipment, conveyance/sortation systems, robotics, or complex electromechanical assemblies at volume
  • Experience launching or scaling new manufacturing lines or sites, from NPI through volume production
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt, or equivalent certification
  • Working knowledge of PLM systems (e.g. Siemens Teamcenter or PTC Windchill) for managing product data and engineering change
  • Experience specifying, integrating, and commissioning automation cells, robotic workcells, or machine vision inspection systems
  • Experience applying lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methods to reduce cycle time and increase capacity
  • Experience leading Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews with product engineering teams
  • Experience authoring process control plans, quality plans, and inspection methodologies
