Workplace: On-Site, Monday-Thursday. REMOTE on Friday.
Location: Long Beach, CA
Salary: $115-130k
The High Voltage Hardware team is seeking a Mechanical Release Engineer to own the engineering release process and issue tracking for its hardware programs.
As the program scales, release administration has become the largest drain on design engineering time. Once a design engineer completes their design, this person picks it up and carries it all the way to a released state, prompting the right approvers, tracking status, and preventing the rework caused by late or incorrect releases.
This is a process ownership and coordination role rather than a design role. The right person is organized, persistent, comfortable chasing people across functions, and able to keep hundreds of parts and assemblies across varying pedigrees in a structured system without losing track of any of them.
Responsibilities
Release execution and ownership
• Take completed designs from the mechanical design engineers and drive them end to end through the release process to a released state in 3DX
• Act as the single point of accountability for release status across hundreds of parts and assemblies spanning multiple pedigrees and programs
• Identify the required approvers and stakeholders for each release, follow up proactively, and keep items moving against program timing
• Catch and correct errors in release packages before they are submitted, reducing rework loops caused by incorrect releases
• Maintain a clear, current view of what is in flight, what is blocked, and what has released, and report that view back to the team
Issue and ticket management
• Own the tracking and organization of engineering tickets across the team's systems, including Jira, SOLVE tickets, EB HW tickets, CPC, and related repositories
• Build and maintain a consolidated view of open issues by product, so the team can answer at any time what is outstanding and what is required to close it
• Create and structure tickets and epics on behalf of engineers when new issues surface, so that items are tracked rather than lost
• Drive issues toward closure by following up with owners and escalating stalled items to the manager
• Recommend and implement improvements to how the team organizes and tracks tickets across repositories
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, or equivalent hands on experience in a product development environment
• 4+ years supporting hardware or mechanical product development in a release, change management, program coordination, or technical project management capacity
• Direct experience driving parts and assemblies through a formal engineering release or change process
• Working proficiency with Jira, including building and structuring tickets, epics, boards, and filters
• Demonstrated ability to track a high volume of concurrent items without losing visibility of status or ownership
• Strong written and verbal communication, with the persistence to follow up across engineering, supply chain, and quality functions until items close
• Comfortable operating independently with limited direction in a fast moving, early stage program environment
Preferred Qualifications
• Hands on experience with 3DEXPERIENCE (3DX) release workflows
• Background in automotive or another high-volume hardware environment with formal PLM discipline
• Exposure to high voltage systems, power conversion, power distribution, or electromechanical assemblies
• Experience building reporting or dashboards that give a team visibility into open issues and release status
• Familiarity with engineering change orders, BOM structures, and part pedigree conventions
Salary Range
• $115,000 - 130,000
• The actual salary offered is dependent on various factors including, but not limited to, location, the candidate’s combination of job-related knowledge, qualifications, skills, education, training, and experience
