About this job

About PHIL

Getting a prescription filled shouldn't be the hardest part of starting treatment. Yet for many patients, it is. PHIL is a Series D health-tech company building the platform that connects patients, prescribers, pharmacies, and pharmaceutical manufacturers so patients can get their medication quickly and affordably.

Our digital hub and pharmacy platform handles everything from enrollment and benefits verification to prior authorization, copay support, and home delivery. For manufacturers, that means more patients start therapy and stay on it, plus the commercial insight to keep improving access.

We're a dedicated team of people from a wide range of backgrounds, united by a focus on the patient experience.

The Role

We're hiring a Senior Director of Product, Coverage to own coverage at PHIL end to end: the coverage engine (real-time benefit verification, prior authorization, and plan-specific appeals) and the product foundation it runs on, including the EHR, payer, and partner integrations that make it work. This is a general manager role with full ownership of outcomes and the freedom to pivot as we learn. It is not a project management or delivery-coordination role.

You'll decide what we build, what we buy, and which partners we connect to, always in service of one question: how many more patients get covered and start therapy, and how quickly. Coverage determines how fast we can bring on new therapies and how well we serve patients, so this role is central to PHIL's growth and launch success right now.

You'll report to the Vice President of Product Management and work closely with Business Development, Engineering, Design, and Pharmacy Operations. You'll lead strategy, requirements, and prioritization, while those teams bring the partner relationships, technical build, user experience, and operational expertise.

This is initially a hands-on, senior-level individual contributor role without direct reports. As the business and function scale, there may be opportunities to build and lead a team based on evolving business needs.

What you'll own

  • Business outcomes: Own the business outcomes of coverage, not just the features. That means (1) growth and coverage performance, (2) new capabilities, and (3) expansion into new therapeutic areas. You own delivery and success: not only what gets built, but how it works in the real world and whether it moves the numbers.

  • Business strategy: Be a strategic partner who informs and molds PHIL's business strategy. You push back when needed, bring solutions rather than just problems, and help the business focus.

  • Coverage strategy and roadmap: Own the end-to-end roadmap for coverage: benefit verification, prior authorization, and appeals. Tie it to PHIL's business strategy and to measurable patient-start outcomes.

  • The coverage funnel: Understand every step from prescription to approved therapy start, find where patients and prescribers drop out, and prioritize the highest-leverage fixes rather than relying on averages.

  • Prescriber (HCP) experience: Make coverage tasks happen where prescribers already work, through the EHR, minimizing HCP effort and friction. Be rigorous about how prescribers really behave today and why they would choose our workflow over alternatives.

  • Integrations and product foundation: Own the roadmap for external integrations (EHRs, payers and plans, third-party providers) and the platform capabilities beneath them, with a clear point of view on build vs. buy, with speed and quality as the test.

  • Competitive and partner landscape: Maintain an honest view of the competitive landscape and PHIL's strengths and gaps, with a plan to close them. Manage partnerships to secure the right level of access and execution, and drive a well-executed payer and network adoption plan.

  • Metrics and operational KPIs: Set long-term success metrics, KPIs, and SLAs for coverage and integrations, and report on them to leadership.

  • Discovery and prioritization: Lead research and discovery across Product, Engineering, Operations, and Commercial, understanding the incentives of every stakeholder group (prescribers, patients, payers, pharmacies, manufacturers), and prioritize ruthlessly.

  • Team and standards: Mentor product team members and raise the bar on strategic rigor and operational depth, including benchmarking against industry best practices.

What success looks like in your first year

  • By 90 days: You've mapped the coverage funnel and our current coverage landscape, met key partners and internal stakeholders, and identified the biggest leaks and opportunities, backed by data. You've performed a product-level competitive benchmarking analysis and shared an initial assessment with senior leadership.

  • By 6 months: You've delivered a prioritized coverage and integrations roadmap with defined KPIs and agreed build-vs-buy decisions, and shipped at least one quick win that measurably improves benefit verification or prior authorization speed or quality.

  • By 12 months: At least one new integration capability is live that drives speed or a positive improvement in coverage, and it is hitting its targets, including measurable reduction in HCP effort. Coverage KPIs and SLAs are tracked and reported to leadership, and the roadmap is supporting at least one new therapeutic category.

What you'll bring

Our strongest candidates are exceptional product strategists who can shape how an entire organization thinks and acts. They set direction with the C-suite, defend it under pressure, and still get into the details with engineers. We care most about strategic judgment, bias to action, and the ability to drive results in complex, regulated, high-stakes environments. Deep healthcare experience helps, but it is not required.

  • 10+ years in product management, including at least 3 years turning business strategy into clear product requirements and outcomes

  • A proven record of defining and driving product strategy in complex, regulated, or mission-critical domains, and of owning business outcomes end to end like a GM, with the ability to pivot when the facts change

  • You drive strategy for the organization, not just your product area: you inform and mold business strategy, push back when needed, and bring solutions

  • Strong executive presence: you can defend your ideas and thought process with senior leaders and the C-suite without getting ruffled, and you hold your ground when the evidence supports it

  • You structure ambiguous problems well: you ask probing questions to understand the data, challenge averages, and break a problem into its key opportunity areas by understanding what each stakeholder group needs

  • You listen, engage with pushback, and re-plan quickly when assumptions change

  • A strong bias to action and a desire to solve problems. You move fast, to the point where you may occasionally need to be asked to slow down

  • You've set and managed product KPIs and operational SLAs, and you're fluent with data

  • You understand technical systems well enough to collaborate effectively with engineering teams

  • You use AI regularly in your own work and have applied it in real product solutions or in development efficiency. We don't need an AI expert, but we do need curiosity and a track record of picking up new tools

  • You thrive under pressure, work independently, and launch solutions quickly

  • You're deeply passionate about PHIL's mission of getting patients their medication, even if your background isn't in healthcare

Nice to have

  • Healthcare experience, such as pharmacy operations, EHR systems, prior authorization, benefit verification, or payer and plan integrations

  • Experience evaluating and onboarding third-party vendors or service providers

  • Hands-on experience with prescriber-facing workflows or EHR-embedded tools

  • Education in technology, healthcare, or pharmacy
