About this job

The Client Engineering organization builds and operates the technology that manages a large-scale corporate computing fleet across Windows and macOS. Our mission is to make endpoint management secure, reliable, measurable, and increasingly autonomous.

We are building the next generation of Client Engineering capabilities: an autonomous fleet management platform that can understand endpoint state, identify risks and drift, make intelligent decisions, safely execute changes, and continuously verify the outcome—with humans involved when judgment or risk requires it.

This is not traditional desktop engineering or a simple device-management role. You will build distributed software systems that operate across hundreds of thousands of endpoints and directly impact how employees work every day.

The Role:

As a Software Development Engineer on the Client Engineering Autonomous Fleet Management team, you will design and build systems that enable autonomous endpoint operations at scale.

You will work across the endpoint, cloud, data, automation, and observability layers to build capabilities such as:

  • Automated OS and application update orchestration
  • Endpoint policy and configuration management
  • Fleet health and compliance evaluation
  • Configuration and software drift detection
  • Safe rollout and deployment automation
  • Automated endpoint remediation and recovery
  • Automated incident detection, investigation, and resolution
  • Intelligent identification and remediation of endpoint failures

You will help evolve endpoint management from a collection of administrative tools into a software-defined, autonomous operating platform.

Key job responsibilities

Build Autonomous Fleet Management Systems:

Design and develop highly scalable services and control-plane capabilities for endpoint policy, configuration, software, OS updates, compliance, and fleet state across a large enterprise environment.

Automate Endpoint Operations and Remediation:

Build intelligent automation that detects endpoint issues, configuration drift, and compliance gaps; determines appropriate actions; executes remediation; and verifies the endpoint has returned to the desired state.

Build Safe, Progressive Deployment Systems:

Develop rollout, canary, ring, health-gating, rollback, and recovery mechanisms that enable fleet-wide changes to be deployed safely while continuously measuring customer and endpoint impact.

Develop Fleet Observability and Intelligence:

Build telemetry, diagnostics, anomaly detection, and root-cause analysis capabilities that transform endpoint signals into actionable insights and automated operational decisions.

Engineer Reliable, Secure, and Scalable Platforms:

Own production-quality software from architecture through operation, designing for scale, reliability, security, resilience, and measurable service-level objectives while contributing to the technical direction of autonomous Client Engineering.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
  • 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
  • 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
