About Mariana Minerals
Mariana Minerals is a software-first, vertically integrated minerals company on a mission to supply the critical minerals powering modern energy, AI, and defense technologies. We’re reimagining the minerals supply chain by combining deep industry expertise with advanced software, automation, and data-driven decision-making.
As a Civil Engineer at Mariana Minerals, you will act as the owner’s engineer for civil and site development scope on greenfield mining and metallurgical processing facilities, defining requirements for engineering contractors and making sure their designs are integrated, constructible, and delivered on schedule and budget. You will also serve as engineer of record for civil packages designed in-house, sealing drawings and calculations once licensed and supporting them through construction.
What You’ll Do
Represent Mariana as the owner’s engineer for civil and site development scope, from site selection and feasibility through detailed design and construction.
Work with designers to develop site concepts in Civil 3D, including site layouts, grading and drainage strategies, access roads, and utility corridors.
Define civil design requirements for engineering contractors, including scope of work, design basis, specifications, deliverable lists, and CAD and modeling standards.
Manage contractor civil design activities from concept through issued-for-construction (IFC), tracking progress, hours, and deliverables against schedule and budget.
Lead design reviews with contractors, construction, and operations, and drive resolution of review comments, clashes, and constructability issues.
Review contractor deliverables, including grading, drainage, stormwater, roadway, and utility drawings, calculations, and quantity take-offs, for quality and compliance with project specifications and local codes.
Respond to contractor technical queries, and evaluate and approve design changes.
Manage geotechnical, survey, and environmental consultants, and make sure their findings are carried into the design.
Coordinate civil interfaces across process, mechanical, structural, electrical, and geotechnical engineering, and across contractor scope boundaries.
Support procurement by writing scopes of work, evaluating contractor proposals, and reviewing bids and submittals.
Support construction by performing field inspections, resolving RFIs and field changes, and verifying as-built surveys.
Once licensed, seve as engineer of record for civil packages designed in-house, including grading, drainage, stormwater, roadway, and utility design.
Perform and check civil design calculations, including earthwork, hydrology and hydraulics, pavement design, and utility sizing, and direct the designers producing the drawings.
Develop Mariana’s civil design standards, standard details, and work processes so they can be reused across projects.
Actively engage in development of Mariana’s internal software tools.
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
10+ years of civil and site development engineering experience on industrial, mining, or infrastructure projects.
Experience managing or reviewing the work of engineering contractors and consultants on an owner’s team, or leading civil scope on EPC projects that interface with owner’s teams.
Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
Experience producing civil design packages for issue under an engineer of record.
Experience delivering greenfield capital projects from feasibility through detailed design and construction.
Strong technical knowledge of site grading, drainage design, stormwater management, earthwork optimization, and roadway design.
Working knowledge of utility design, geotechnical reports, and permitting requirements for industrial sites.
Strong communication skills and the ability to hold contractors accountable for quality, schedule, and budget.
Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, manage competing priorities, and support delivery of high-quality engineering packages under schedule constraints.
Preferred
Professional Engineer (PE) license in civil engineering, or the ability to obtain one within 12 months.
Experience with mining, mineral processing, chemical, or heavy industrial facilities.
Experience developing software tools or automating design workflows.
