About this job
About Airwallex
Airwallex is the AI-native financial operating system for a real-time, intelligent economy. More than 675,000 businesses, including McLaren Racing, Qantas, SHEIN, and TikTok, use us, directly or through our platform partners, to run their financial operations or build and monetize financial products of their own.
We started in Melbourne in 2015 to build the infrastructure global commerce runs on. We're the regulated backbone behind global payments: not by accident, but by design. A decade plus, 85+ licenses, and a financial infrastructure spanning North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.
We're co-headquartered in San Francisco and Singapore, with more than 2,700 people across 27 offices. We hire builders with founder-level energy, people who move fast with good judgment, dig in with real curiosity, and make calls from first principles rather than waiting to be told what to do. Read our operating principles to see it in full.
How you'll make impact
Airwallex is redesigning its Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) Program and second-line function, and this role will provide independent assurance that the program is designed and operating effectively. Reporting to the Director of FCC Monitoring, you’ll lead monitoring and testing across the Americas, helping Airwallex meet regulatory expectations as it grows into new products, regions, customer cohorts and licensing requirements.
Redesign and strengthen Airwallex’s FCC monitoring and testing approach across the Americas.
Build and deliver a regional assurance plan covering the US, Canada, Brazil and Mexico, aligned to local risk assessments, products, entities and regulatory expectations.
Map the control inventory to regional risk assessments, identify gaps in testing coverage by entity and product, and draft the annual testing plan around state examination cycles.
Use data analytics and AI thoughtfully to make monitoring and testing more proactive, efficient and auditable, while documenting methodologies, evidence and conclusions clearly.
Partner with local and regional MLROs, FCC Operations, Product, the VP of FCC, regulators, banking partners and senior leadership to assess control effectiveness and support expansion into new products, regions, customer cohorts and licensing requirements.
Establish strong working relationships across a new global function, operating independently across multiple time zones and contributing to a future-ready FCC Program.
This remote role is based in Dallas
What we're looking for
Essentials
Deep understanding of global AML and Sanctions frameworks, including regulatory expectations across the US regions.
Proven experience in program monitoring and testing, with evidence of enhancing the effectiveness of a financial crime compliance program.
Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with demonstrated ability to engage senior executives, regulators and global business leaders on complex financial crime risk matters.
Experience operating in a second-line financial crime compliance, risk or assurance function, with the independence and judgment to assess program effectiveness.
Strong understanding of sanctions oversight and its role within an FCC Program.
Ability to work autonomously, manage your own workload and deliver high-quality, well-documented work across multiple jurisdictions and time zones.
Experience using data analytics, automation or AI-enabled approaches to improve monitoring, testing or assurance methodologies.
Preferred
Experience working with or supporting Group MLRO, Regional MLRO or Country MLRO functions, including governance committees, regulatory engagements and risk oversight activities.
Risk and controls experience.
You'll thrive here if
You're comfortable owning the roadmap yourself.
You're comfortable making decisions with incomplete information and moving quickly anyway.
You hold yourself to a high standard even when no one is watching. Quality and accountability aren't external expectations; they're internal ones.
You enjoy working closely with people across multiple countries and time zones as part of one connected, global team, including flexing your hours occasionally to make that connection work.
You come to the table with a point of view, not just a problem.
