About this job

About Airwallex

Airwallex is the AI-native financial operating system for a real-time, intelligent economy. More than 675,000 businesses, including McLaren Racing, Qantas, SHEIN, and TikTok, use us, directly or through our platform partners, to run their financial operations or build and monetize financial products of their own.

We started in Melbourne in 2015 to build the infrastructure global commerce runs on. We're the regulated backbone behind global payments: not by accident, but by design. A decade plus, 85+ licenses, and a financial infrastructure spanning North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.

We're co-headquartered in San Francisco and Singapore, with more than 2,700 people across 27 offices. We hire builders with founder-level energy, people who move fast with good judgment, dig in with real curiosity, and make calls from first principles rather than waiting to be told what to do. Read our operating principles to see it in full.

How you'll make impact

Reporting to the FCC Transaction Monitoring Lead, you'll lead the Financial Crime Compliance Level 3 review function, applying sound judgment to complex cases and helping strengthen the quality and consistency of FCC operations.

  • Lead and develop a team of Financial Crime Compliance Level 3 analysts, setting a high bar for case quality, timely resolution and consistent process governance.

  • Independently review and resolve complex, risk-based cases escalated from first- and second-line operations across KYC, enhanced due diligence, name screening and transaction monitoring.

  • Assess customer profiles, ownership and control structures, business activities, transaction patterns, counterparties and supporting information to reach clear, evidence-based conclusions.

  • Conduct internal and external research, critically assess information from customers and internal stakeholders, and document investigative rationale, supporting evidence and follow-up actions.

  • Identify financial-crime risks, recurring themes and opportunities to strengthen processes and controls, escalating higher-risk cases, potential sanctions matches and suspicious activity concerns through the appropriate channels.

  • Partner closely with Operations and Compliance stakeholders, maintain accurate case records, apply global and local FCC policies and procedures, and stay current on relevant financial-crime risks and regulatory developments.

This is a remote role based in Dallas, Texas.

What we're looking for

Essentials

  • A degree or at least eight years of experience in Financial Crime Compliance.

  • Proven experience in an AML/CTF or fraud investigations role.

  • Strong analytical and investigative skills, with the ability to assess complex information and reach well-reasoned conclusions.

  • A solid understanding of financial-crime risks, typologies and risk-based review practices.

  • Sound judgment, ownership and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.

  • Experience overseeing, mentoring or training analysts, with a focus on high-quality case resolution and process governance.

Preferred

  • Experience in fintech or a start-up environment.

  • Experience reviewing complex cases across KYC, enhanced due diligence, name screening and transaction monitoring.

  • Experience conducting internal and external research and documenting clear investigative rationale, supporting evidence and follow-up actions.

  • Experience working across global and local Financial Crime Compliance policies and regulatory requirements.

You'll thrive here if

  • You own the outcome and you don't wait for permission to fix what's broken.

  • You're comfortable making decisions with incomplete information and moving quickly anyway.

  • You've operated in a compliance-heavy environment and know how to move fast without cutting the corners that matter.

  • You connect dots across functions and hold the big picture without losing grip on the details.

  • You over-communicate by design. You'd rather flag something early than let it become a surprise.
