About this job

About Airwallex

Airwallex is the AI-native financial operating system for a real-time, intelligent economy. More than 675,000 businesses, including McLaren Racing, Qantas, SHEIN, and TikTok, use us, directly or through our platform partners, to run their financial operations or build and monetize financial products of their own.

We started in Melbourne in 2015 to build the infrastructure global commerce runs on. We're the regulated backbone behind global payments: not by accident, but by design. A decade plus, 85+ licenses, and a financial infrastructure spanning North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.

We're co-headquartered in San Francisco and Singapore, with more than 2,700 people across 27 offices. We hire builders with founder-level energy, people who move fast with good judgment, dig in with real curiosity, and make calls from first principles rather than waiting to be told what to do. Read our operating principles to see it in full.

How you'll make impact

As Senior Manager, Credit Risk, you’ll lead Airwallex’s global second-line oversight of credit, FX, and counterparty risk. You’ll set the guardrails that support responsible growth across merchant acquiring, charge cards, FX, treasury, settlement, and banking-partner activities.

  • Lead Airwallex’s global second-line oversight of credit, FX, and counterparty risk, setting the guardrails that support responsible growth across merchant acquiring, charge cards, FX, treasury, settlement, and banking-partner activities.

  • Own the global risk framework, risk appetite, limits, governance, and portfolio oversight across products and legal entities, providing independent challenge to first-line decisions and trusted advice to senior leaders.

  • Oversee credit exposures and challenge underwriting strategies, customer and merchant risk policies, credit assessments, limit-setting methodologies, exception processes, and mitigation strategies.

  • Establish and monitor second-line controls for FX and counterparty exposures, including pre-funding, settlement, customer activity, treasury flows, banking partners, payment partners, merchants, and customers.

  • Lead proactive monitoring of portfolio trends and early-warning indicators, support risk committee decisions and material approvals, and represent Credit Risk in regulatory examinations, audits, and banking-partner reviews.

This role is based in Dallas, Texas and is fully remote.

What we're looking for

Essentials

  • 10–15 years of progressively senior experience across credit risk, counterparty risk, FX risk, treasury risk, or related financial risk disciplines within banking, payments, fintech, or another highly regulated financial services environment.

  • Deep experience designing, implementing, and governing second-line credit risk frameworks in a complex, multi-jurisdictional organization.

  • Strong understanding of credit risk identification, measurement, underwriting, limit management, monitoring, mitigation, provisioning, loss recognition, and capital implications.

  • Demonstrated experience managing risk across multiple product lines, such as merchant acquiring, commercial or charge cards, B2B lending, payment processing, FX, treasury, settlement, or banking-partner activities.

  • Practical experience overseeing FX and counterparty risk, including exposure measurement, concentration risk, limits, settlement risk, prefunding, collateral or other mitigants, and escalation governance.

  • Proven ability to challenge first-line decisions and communicate clear risk positions to senior executives, commercial leaders, product and operations teams, banking partners, auditors, and regulators.

Preferred

  • Advanced degree such as an MBA or Master's in Finance, Economics, Risk Management, or a related field.

  • Professional certification such as FRM, PRM, CFA, or an equivalent qualification.

  • Experience with automated decisioning engines, credit scoring models, portfolio analytics, or alternative data used in underwriting and monitoring.

  • Familiarity with IFRS 9, expected credit loss methodologies, stress testing, or other relevant prudential and accounting frameworks.

  • Strong data literacy and familiarity with SQL, Python, or similar tools used to analyze portfolio, exposure, and loss trends.

  • Experience working in a regulated payments fintech, digital bank, or financial institution with multiple licenses and banking partnerships.

  • Comfort operating in a high-growth environment with evolving priorities and a bias for practical, scalable execution.

You'll thrive here if

  • You own the outcome and you don't wait for permission to fix what's broken.

  • You're comfortable making decisions with incomplete information and moving quickly anyway.

  • You've operated in a compliance-heavy environment and know how to move fast without cutting the corners that matter.

  • You connect dots across functions and hold the big picture without losing grip on the details.

  • You communicate clearly and directly across cultures, and you're thoughtful about how context shifts meaning across borders.
