About this job

From the beginning, Genentech has been a team of highly dedicated, passionate individuals. We are a place where people are united around a single purpose and an ambitious vision. Together, we aspire to deliver ever better health outcomes for patients while lowering overall healthcare costs. Our goal is to compel the customer to act on behalf of their patients while showing great commitment to the rare disease community, whose support is key.  Utilizing innovative methods to identify patients who may benefit from treatment, we must take a highly strategic approach to patient access while assisting patients and their caregivers to navigate the healthcare system.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Head of Customer Engagement (CE) Field Operations is responsible for ensuring CE Field Leadership has a trusted, consistent, and highly effective operations partnership that connects leadership priorities to the full CE Operations network. This leader oversees the Field Operations organization supporting Regional and National field leadership and is accountable for establishing the operating model, standards, capabilities, and ways of working that enable Field Operations Directors to serve as strategic partners to their assigned leaders.

SCOPE & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Field Operations Leadership & Talent

  • Lead, coach, develop, and manage the Field Operations Directors and other Field Operations team members.
  • Establish clear expectations, common standards, and ways of working for Field Operations across Regional and National teams.
  • Build the capabilities required for Field Operations Directors to serve as trusted strategic and operational partners to Field Leadership.

  • Maintain a consolidated view of Regional and National priorities, business needs, risks, opportunities, capacity requirements, and execution barriers.
  • Identify common themes across leadership teams and determine where needs should be addressed locally versus solved once across CE or the enterprise.
  • Translate CE and enterprise strategy into clear implications and priorities for the field.
  • Ensure Field Leadership perspectives and needs are represented in CE and enterprise planning and decision-making.

Operating Model & Business Planning

  • Own the overall operating framework and planning standards for Field Operations.
  • Establish common leadership planning rhythms, expectations, and operating standards across Regional and National teams.
  • Partner with CE Leadership and Enterprise Operations to connect Regional and National priorities to broader CE and enterprise planning.
  • Oversee integration of Regional and National needs into Role-Based Orchestration (RBO), Annual Business Planning (ABP), resource planning, and other enterprise operating processes.
  • Ensure Field Operations Directors have the information, tools, data, and support necessary to enable effective decision-making with their assigned leadership teams.

Cross-Functional Integration & Enterprise Connectivity

  • Connect Field Leadership needs to the appropriate CE Operations and enterprise teams, reducing the need for field leaders to navigate multiple functions independently.
  • Partner closely with Enterprise Operations, RBO teams, Squad Field Partners, CPO, DDA, L&SD, Field Medical, GPAA, and other functions to align priorities and execution.
  • Surface cross-field themes, risks, and opportunities and translate them into actionable recommendations for CE Leadership.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, or scale solutions across Regional and National teams.
  • Ensure effective horizontal visibility across Field Operations so that decisions and activities occurring across teams are understood in aggregate rather than in isolation.

Insights, Performance & Decision Support

  • Synthesize field insights, performance signals, customer data, and emerging business needs to identify opportunities and risks.
  • Translate information into actionable recommendations for CE and Field Leadership.
  • Ensure consistent preparation of business reviews, capacity recommendations, leadership decision materials, and escalations.
  • Partner with the CE Business Manager and other Operations leaders to provide CE Leadership with an integrated view of field performance, trends, and priorities.
  • Drive continuous improvement of Field Operations based on business needs and evolving customer and field requirements.
